Consultant physician and endocrinologist Dr. Paul Jenkins runs the London Endocrine Centre. Dr. Jenkins has also established a multi-disciplinary Long Covid Clinic after he noticed the similarities between his experience treating post-viral fatigue syndrome and the massive new patient cohort suffering multi- system illness after contracting Covid-19.
He is a wonderfully empathetic doctor, emphasising that the place to start is to assure his Long Covid patients that this is a very real disease. A truly fascinating interview about how the endocrine system and hormones may be affecting and causing some of our debilitating symptoms. Dr. Jenkins shares so much of his 30 years of expertise and walks us through individual symptoms and how they may have been triggered. He also shares what treatments he uses to combat the effects and has reported that the majority of his patients do improve with time.
The endocrine system is a network of glands in your body that make the hormones that help cells talk to each other. The hormones in your body’s endocrine system control nearly all the processes of the body, from metabolism to growth, emotions, mood, sexual function and even sleep.
We take a deep dive into how damage to the endocrine system can affect the thyroid function, insulin production, blood pressure abnormalities (POTS), IBS, mitochondria injury and Jenkins even suggests that sunshine (not Vitamin D), but something that we don’t yet fully understand or can identify, is helping make us feel better.
We will be seeing if we can get some sunshine on prescription!
