Respiratory consultant, Dr Melissa Heightman, has been taking the clinical lead in UCLH’s Long Covid provision since seeing her first patients in May 2020. Setting the bar for what Long Covid sufferers need in terms of treatment, therapy and research, she and her team are offering a multi-disciplinary approach to try and get to grips with the breadth of this disease. The treatment road map that has been scaled out to all Long Covid clinics is not without obstacles, but with people like Dr Heightman at the helm for both patient and research guidance, there is hope. Possibly the most experienced Long Covid consultant in the country, she discusses their approach and speaks of the challenges facing GPs, individual clinics and the NHS at large.
