Dr Sarah Glynne, G.P. and menopause specialist, believes that between one third and a half of women with Long Covid could benefit from Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). There is remarkable overlap of the symptoms of the peri-menopause and Long Covid, and Glynne has found that treating the hormonal imbalance of the peri-menopause with HRT has alleviated many of her patient’s Long Covid symptoms.
In this week’s episode we talk about the way that COVID-19 has affected women’s menstrual cycles, hormones and the benefits of HRT, and ponder over the lack of clinical trials into a treatment that could have huge impacts in women’s recovery.
Glynne has been working alongside her husband, Dr Paul Glynne (interviewed in Episode 3), in developing knowledge and treatment strategies for Long Covid. Her booklet on Long Covid and female hormones, written with Louise Newson, menopause expert and founder of the balance app, can be found on the Balance website, along with a host of other resources for navigating female hormones.
