Professor Guy Leschziner is an expert on sleep. No, not an expert sleeper like our husbands but a world leader on sleep disorders. Quite how he finds the time to sleep himself is surprising as not only is he the clinical lead of a sleep disorder clinic, he has also written a book about it, filmed a series on sleep for Channel 4 as well as two radio shows for the BBC. His book is well worth reading if sleep is an issue or an interest. “The Nocturnal Brain: Nightmares, Neuroscience and the Secret World of Sleep”.
Good sleep is so important for Long Covid sufferers, in fact, poor sleep is listed as one of the barriers to recovery.
Dr. Leschziner is part of a Long Covid Clinic where he is looking into the disturbed sleep patterns of Long Covid sufferers and trying to offer solutions.
In this week’s episode Professor Leschziner discusses the various sleep disturbances he is seeing in Long Covid patients. He shares some of his knowledge on handling these, giving practical advice on the way we can start to address our issues, help that we can request via our G.P., reassurance that there are ways to treat insomnia, and information on how fatigue and our sleep are not necessarily linked.
